December Challenge

Portreath Art Club has thought up this challenge to raise funds.  Every month we are given a photograph which we can paint in any medium and any style.  Before the exhibition in August the best one will be chosen and framed and sold by raffle.  I didn't think I could do justice to the photograph so I tried a different interpretation.

During the summer I often ride my mobility scooter down to the beach.  Whilst 'people watching' I make sketches and then use them to paint a picture.

Christmas 2014 update

In the past I have confined my blog to my paintings. As I have not posted anything for a while I would like to explain my absence and restart my blog. I have not had a very good year. I moved into residential care in May because I was physically unable to care for myself.  I am very content here,  still in the village where I have lived for thirteen years, and my daughter-in-law Sally-Ann lives just across the road. Her husband, my son Mike, died in June and she has been a great comfort to me. I did manage to show some pictures at the August exhibition of the local art club, and sold two. The art club has made me an honorary member, I am the eldest in age and longest serving member. I hope with the help of Sally-Ann to post a few paintings in the near future. This is the last piece I have done for my Drawing Course "Buildings in the Landscape".  I have now signed up for the "Seascapes" Course, which looks very challenging.  These courses have been a godsend for me, now that I can't get out much.

Portreath Art Exhibition

This is my stand at the Art Exhibition.  No pictures sold as yet!

New Watercolour Canvas

These two pictures are painted on commercially prepared canvas and then sprayed with a fixative.  They do not need to be put behind glass and so can be hung directly on to a wall.

Man-an-Tol

This was associated with fertility.  Women who wanted babies and farmers who wanted a good harvest would climb through the hole.

 

 

Lanyon Quoit

This was a burial chamber.
